Read into Illidan's story and you'll know very well that he was actually never evil, there were just a bunch of idiots who made him out to be. Illidan always had the best of intentions, but unlike Arthas he never fell, he just made massive sacrifices to ensure that he could do the duty he had thrust upon himself. With Illidan's death however, he failed to protect us.

Yes I mean that seriously, none of the demons or of Illidan's minions were members of the Burning Legion, in fact I do believe what Illidan was trying to do with the demon hordes at the Dark Portal was to keep people out, so the activity in the Outlands wouldn't attract the Burning Legion or make his job in keeping the Burning Legion from getting a hold on the demons he commanded under their wing. In fact I do believe if you read properly into the story of Illidan, it's anything BUT dark, and he had proper reason not to share the power of the well with the blood elves as he knew well a properly that Kael'Thas would turn on him and join the Burning Legion, which Illidan remove the demons under his command from. I have a pet theory, that Illidan fed his own soul to the Reliquary for some reason, which would explain his dark descent.Dark descent? Surely you jest, I've seen no dark descent of Illidan's. Though that might be more to do with Illidan than the Shrine itself. If we learn more about the Shrine, we might also learn why Illidan was fine with using it to feed unbound demons, but wouldn't use it to help the Blood Elve's magic addiction. More on topic, I was under the impression that one of the tip top reasons why the Iron Horde was after the Temple was because of the Shrine. Who knows, in WoD we might be forced to fight fire with fire, Black Harvest vs Shadow Council in a battle for fel-dominance. All the members were so edgy and 'warlocky' that it made such an entertaining read. I'd love to read more in-game texts about the Council of the Black Harvest.

Which would suck because it was really interesting.I guess the closest thing we've seen so far as a continuation of that lore is the lvl 100 Warlock talents, which are all pretty much Kanrethad's abilities: In which case we may never hear of it again. See I have this suspicion that that lore was written by whatshisname, that Warlock dev that got fired. I'm very interested to see if any of the lore from the green fire quest chain is followed up on.
